Agartala, December 17: In a demonstration of unity, people of the Christian faith gathered from various churches under the banner of Agartala Churches Coordination Committee, conducted a peace rally in Agartala on Sunday.
The rally, initiated at Pragati School ground, went through the streets of the capital as hundreds of participants carried placards and posters, passionately advocating for peace.
At the end of the rally they raised their voices in unison, singing carols and offering prayers for harmony.
However, amid the festive atmosphere, concerns arise as the Janajati Suraksha Mancha, an organization purportedly working for indigenous people, has called for the removal of converted tribal individuals, especially those of the Christian faith, from the Schedule Tribe list.
They plan to organize a rally in Agartala on Christmas Day to assert their demands.
This move has sparked worries among several opposition parties in the state, as the rally coincides with Christmas Day celebrations, raising concerns about potential communal tensions.
