Agartala, Nov 5: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Thursday indicated progress in the implementation of the March 2024 tripartite agreement, saying he had recently spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and that a notification on the land-related issue could be issued in next two days.
Speaking to reporters on his arrival in Agartala, Debbarma said the process of implementing the agreement was expected to move forward, adding that the Centre was likely to invite the Tipra Motha leadership to New Delhi for further discussions.
“I spoke to the Home Minister yesterday. I think they are calling us to Delhi. Regarding the land issue, a notification may come today or tomorrow, and we will proceed based on its recommendations,” he said.
Describing the latest developments as positive, Debbarma stressed that the implementation of the agreement should not be delayed, asserting that the rights and constitutional aspirations of the indigenous Tiprasa people were essential for Tripura’s overall development.
He said his party would remain firm on its demands until the commitments made under the agreement were fulfilled.
“People need not worry. As long as I am alive, I will never compromise on the future of Tripura and my Tiprasa people,” he said, emphasising that negotiations with the Centre would continue without abandoning the community’s interests.
Debbarma also appealed for unity among the Tiprasa people, cautioning against attempts to divide them politically. He said the party was prepared to negotiate and engage in dialogue while maintaining its position, with peace and development as its priorities.
The tripartite agreement was signed in March 2024 between the Centre, the Tripura government and the Tipra Motha-led representatives of the indigenous communities. It envisaged an honourable constitutional solution to the issues concerning the indigenous population of the state.
Debbarma said all commitments under the agreement must be implemented to secure the future of the next generation.
