Agartala, October 14:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday criticised the opposition for allegedly encouraging job aspirants to stage road protests, asserting that his government had provided more than 23,900 government job offers since 2018 and would continue recruitment, particularly in the education sector.
Speaking to reporters after distributing appointment offers to recruits in various departments, Saha said the government had provided jobs to 22,450 people through direct recruitment and compassionate appointments since coming to power in 2018 while on the day more appointment offer letters are being distributed.
He said appointment offers were being distributed to more than 1,450 candidates at one programme on Wednesday, while over 80 candidates had received offers at a separate programme earlier in the day.
Targeting the opposition over protests by youths demanding government jobs, Saha alleged that opposition groups were encouraging aspirants to take to the streets.
He maintained that the government was addressing recruitment requirements through appointments across departments.
Education, he said, remained a priority sector, with the latest recruitment drive covering Assistant Professors posts in the Higher Education and School Education departments, alongside appointments in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department.
The appointments included graduate teachers for Classes VI-VIII and IX-X, besides posts in higher education and other departments.
On the demand for recruitment of candidates who had qualified in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), Saha said the government would continue the recruitment process. He noted, however, that the TET-I recruitment process was held up due to a case pending before the High Court.
The Chief Minister also said around 26,000 people had been engaged on contractual and outsourced arrangements to meet staffing requirements in various government departments.
Congratulating the newly appointed candidates, Saha urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and contribute to students’ academic development and society. He stressed the need to foster scientific thinking, social responsibility and a forward-looking outlook among students.
He also emphasised the importance of adapting to modern teaching methods, including smart classrooms and research facilities, while noting that traditional classroom teaching continued to have value.
Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy and senior officials attended the programmes held at Matangini Pritilata Sabhagriha and the Hapania International Fair Ground.
Saha also distributed scooters to meritorious girl students under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana.
