Agartala, Oct 9 : Police seized around 9 kg of dried ganja and 29 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup, collectively valued at approximately Rs 4.79 lakh, from a border road area in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, officials said on Friday.
The contraband was recovered from the Srimantapur-Sahapur border road area during a routine patrolling operation, they said.
According to preliminary information, the items were found unclaimed during patrolling duty. Police subsequently seized the suspected contraband after completing the necessary legal formalities.
The seized items included approximately 9 kg of dried ganja and 29 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup. Their combined estimated market value was assessed at around Rs 4,79,000, officials said.
No person was found claiming ownership of the seized items at the time of the recovery.
The Sonamura police station has initiated an investigation to identify the person or persons who may have owned or abandoned the contraband, officials said.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the recovery and are trying to establish how the items reached the area.
Further details regarding the seizure and the possible involvement of individuals are awaited as the investigation progresses.
Police seized the items in accordance with legal procedures, and the investigation is underway to ascertain their origin and intended destination.
The recovery comes amid continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the movement of suspected narcotic substances and other prohibited items in border areas of Tripura.
Officials said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
