**Agartala, September 20:** Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das on Saturday described the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results as significant, saying the outcome reflected what he viewed as increasing support among young people for nationalism and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Speaking during a Facebook Live broadcast, Das congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which captured three of the four central positions in the university students’ body. Yash Dabas won the president’s post, Riya Chhawdi was elected secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh became joint secretary. The vice-president’s post went to independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen.
Das said the importance of the result extended beyond the university campus because of Delhi University’s diverse student population. Referring to the institution as “Mini India”, he argued that the election outcome provided an indication of the political thinking among a section of the country’s youth.
The minister used the occasion to target Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying the DUSU results represented a rejection of what he termed the “politics of lies” and an endorsement of the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.
He also questioned the response of students to Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore. Das alleged that the Congress and opposition parties were attempting to influence Gen Z through what he described as “false propaganda”.
The minister further highlighted the performance of the Congress student organisation, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which failed to secure any of the four central posts.
Das also criticised Communist parties and other opposition groups, accusing them of working against nationalism and India’s cultural traditions. In his address, he referred to such groups using the terms “Urban Naxals” and “intellectual Naxals”.
Urging young people to remain cautious about what he called “forthcoming conspiracies and propaganda”, Das cited Swami Vivekananda while encouraging the youth to maintain a positive approach and play an active role in nation-building.
He ended his address by congratulating the newly elected DUSU office-bearers and expressing hope that they would work for student welfare and contribute to the country’s future.
