Agartala, May 15:
In a sharp escalation of tensions within Tripura’s ruling alliance, TIPRA Motha Party leaders on Friday directly targeted the BJP-led state government over alleged post-poll violence and police inaction especially in Takarjala and Jampuijala area under Sepahijala district following the recent Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections.
A TIPRA Motha delegation led by MLA Biswajit Kaloi and newly elected District Council member Suraj Debbarma met DGP Anurag at Tripura police headquarters in Agartala and alleged complete collapse of law and order in the ADC areas.
Though TIPRA Motha is a coalition partner of the BJP government in Tripura, both parties fought separately in the recent ADC polls, where TIPRA Motha retained control of the council.
Addressing the media, the Motha leaders alleged what bomb blasts, firing incidents and political intimidation have continued unchecked in Takarjala and Jampuijala for the past two-and-a-half months.
Suraj Debbarma, who is also YTF president, alleged that police recovered firearms and explosives from the residence of a BJP candidate during the recent by-election process, but “no action” was taken.
He also questioned why no suo motu case was registered despite alleged attacks on police personnel during the violence.
MLA Biswajit Kaloi claimed that firing and bomb attacks were taking place “openly in front of police” and alleged that even after repeated complaints to police and district authorities, no arrests had been made.
Both leaders indirectly cornered Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, demanding impartial action against those involved irrespective of party affiliation.
“The Chief Minister says nobody will be spared, but where is the action?” Kaloi questioned.
The leaders also alleged that a series of blasts in multiple villages earlier this month had created fear among residents and warned that continued inaction could further destabilise the region.
