Tripura Govt Adopts Austerity Measures Following PM Modi’s Appeal; BJP Launches Statewide Training Campaign
Agartala, May 14:
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for austerity, fuel conservation and reduction of unnecessary expenditure, the Tripura government has initiated measures including partial work-from-home arrangements for employees and appeals to reduce avoidable vehicle use, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Thursday.
Dr Saha made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the BJP’s “Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Prashikshan Maha Abhiyan 2026” at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala.
The Chief Minister said Prime Minister Modi’s calls are always taken seriously by citizens and stressed that fuel conservation and controlled consumption are necessary in the present global situation.
“Today while coming here, I noticed that the number of vehicles on the roads had reduced. If people avoid unnecessary use of cars and scooters, petrol and diesel consumption will decrease, imports will come down and it will benefit the country,” Dr Saha said.
He said the state government has already begun encouraging measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and expenditure.
“From the side of the Tripura government, we have already said that Group C and Group D employees may work from home on a 50 per cent basis wherever feasible. Since everyone uses vehicles and scooters, this can help save fuel and reduce pressure arising out of the present situation,” he stated.
Calling for preventive economic discipline, the Chief Minister said, “Prevention is better than cure,” while urging citizens to avoid unnecessary consumption and adopt economical practices in line with the Prime Minister’s appeal.
Earlier, addressing BJP workers at the training programme, Dr Saha said the statewide campaign would focus on ideological orientation, public communication, leadership development and character building among party cadres.
He said the “Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Prashikshan Maha Abhiyan 2026” would be organised across mandal, district and state levels throughout Tripura.
According to the Chief Minister, the workshops would train party workers on the functioning of the BJP-led double-engine government, welfare schemes, social outreach and organisational coordination.
“Governments may come and go and elections will come and go, but our core ideology and commitment towards society must remain intact. The main objective of the training is character building and developing leadership qualities,” Dr Saha said.
He added that discussions during the training camps would also cover national and international developments and methods to strengthen communication with the people.
