Agartala, February 2: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday described the Union Budget 2026–27 reflect a welfare-oriented and forward-looking approach focused on inclusive growth and infrastructure development.
Addressing a press briefing in Agartala, Dr. Saha said the budget is anchored on three key pillars — last-mile delivery, inclusive development and robust infrastructure creation — which will ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach every section of society.
He noted that the Centre’s emphasis on higher capital expenditure would significantly boost connectivity and create modern infrastructure across the country, including the Northeast.
“The budget focuses on accelerating development through enhanced investment in infrastructure, which will open up new opportunities and improve overall connectivity,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted that adequate provisions have been made for health, education and agriculture.
Stressing the importance of public welfare, he said the healthcare sector would benefit from standardized infrastructure and greater attention to mental health services. “With minimum expenditure, people will receive maximum benefits in health and other essential services,” he added.
Dr. Saha also welcomed the focus on farmers and the agriculture sector, particularly measures to enhance irrigation and increase productivity.
He said the budget aims to strengthen household incomes while promoting rural empowerment.
Calling the budget “future-ready,” the Chief Minister pointed out the thrust on entrepreneurship and the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which he said would generate employment and encourage innovation.
He further appreciated the proposals for new rail corridors, clean energy initiatives and the integration of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies into governance and development.
A major highlight for the region, according to Dr. Saha, is the announcement of a Buddhist Circuit for the Northeast.
He said the initiative would benefit states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Sikkim, Tripura and Assam by boosting tourism and strengthening economic ties with Southeast Asia.
“If tourist visit this part of the country, it will certainly have a positive impact on the local economy,” he said, expressing optimism that the move would enhance Tripura’s tourism potential.
The Chief Minister also welcomed the introduction of e-bus services for the Northeast and said the budget places special emphasis on the empowerment of youth and women.
Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he termed the budget a welfare-centric document that promises a brighter and more prosperous future for the nation.
In an earlier social media post, Dr. Saha said the budget covers a wide spectrum — from manufacturing and world-class infrastructure to healthcare, tourism, rural development, sports, pilgrimage and artificial intelligence — aimed at transforming aspirations into reality and making India self-reliant and globally competitive.
