The Tripura unit of the BJP will organise a month-long programme of public service and outreach activities from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and 25 years in public office, state BJP president and MLA Abhishek Debroy said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, Debroy said the celebrations would be different from the party’s usual fortnight-long programmes as Modi completes 25 years of public service as an administrator and elected leader.
“Modi ji’s birthday is observed every year by the BJP as a fortnight of service. But this year is special as he completes 25 years as an administrator, chief minister and prime minister,” Debroy said.
He said the month-long campaign would be organised under the theme of ‘Seva’, with 12 programmes designed to reach out to people across the state.
The programmes will begin on September 17 with blood donation camps and an initiative under which beneficiaries of various central government schemes will light lamps as a mark of gratitude to the prime minister.
“Six lakh diyas will be lit across the state, including at important religious places and temples, and in households,” Debroy said.
He said programmes would also be organised to honour ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers, with a focus on nutrition and child welfare.
Other activities will include a ‘Mere Sapno Ka Bharat’ drawing competition in schools and colleges, debates and cultural programmes, and street plays highlighting the impact of various government schemes and welfare initiatives.
Debroy said the BJP would also organise a programme titled ‘Seva Ki Kahani’ and ‘Namo Seva—Ankahi Kahani’, through which beneficiaries and the public would be encouraged to narrate stories of how government schemes had affected their lives.
He said the party would conduct the 12 programmes continuously across the state for a month, with the objective of taking the message of “Seva Hi Sangathan” to people.
Highlighting the Modi government’s record, Debroy credited the prime minister’s leadership with India’s economic growth, welfare initiatives for farmers and women, promotion of startups and youth entrepreneurship, and strengthening of the country’s defence capabilities.
He said India had moved from being the world’s 11th-largest economy to the fifth-largest and was now moving towards becoming the third-largest economy.
Debroy also highlighted initiatives such as PM-KISAN, Soil Health Cards, women’s self-help groups and sanitation programmes, and said the government’s approach had sought to promote self-reliance and economic empowerment.
On national security, he said the Modi government had demonstrated a stronger response to terrorism and cited the surgical strikes and Operation Sindoor as examples of what he described as the country’s changed approach to national security.
He said the BJP’s month-long campaign in Tripura would seek to carry the message of service and welfare to people at the grassroots.
