Agartala, July 7: In response to growing public concerns over water scarcity, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to address the ongoing drinking water crisis affecting several municipal wards in the city.
The meeting, held at the AMC headquarters, was attended by Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, members of the Mayor-in-Council, ward corporators, Municipal Commissioner D.K. Chakma, and senior officials from the state’s water and electricity departments.
The session focused on identifying the root causes behind the persistent water supply issues and the existing gaps in the distribution network and service delivery. Participants engaged in detailed discussions on technical challenges, delayed maintenance, and infrastructure bottlenecks that have contributed to the worsening situation in various wards.
Mayor Majumder expressed serious concern over the impact of the water crisis on daily life and emphasized the urgency of implementing corrective measures. He assured that the corporation is committed to resolving the issue at the earliest through coordinated efforts between municipal and utility agencies.
“The residents of Agartala deserve uninterrupted access to safe and clean drinking water. We are fully committed to streamlining our services and bridging all operational gaps to meet public expectations,” the Mayor said.
He directed officials to take immediate steps to improve water supply in the worst-affected areas and to expedite ongoing repair and augmentation works. The Mayor also stressed the need for long-term planning to prevent future water shortages, including better coordination between water and power departments.
Citizens have been grappling with irregular water supply in several parts of the city in recent weeks, leading to rising complaints. Monday’s meeting signals AMC’s renewed efforts to respond swiftly and effectively to public needs.
