Agartala, June 6: Tension gripped the Maharajganj Bazaar area on Thursday morning after a mysterious grenade-shaped object was found in front of the Fire Service office, sparking panic among locals.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspicious object was first spotted by residents near the entrance of the Fire Service office. Alarmed by its appearance, which resembled a hand grenade, the locals immediately informed the police. Within minutes, police personnel arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to ensure public safety.
Soon after, the bomb disposal squad was called in to assess the situation. After a careful examination, the bomb squad safely retrieved the object, though officials have not yet confirmed whether it was an actual explosive device or a replica. The object has been sent for forensic analysis to determine its nature and origin.
The incident created a wave of panic in the otherwise busy marketplace, with shopkeepers temporarily shutting down their businesses and passersby quickly vacating the area. Security forces maintained a strong presence at the site while the investigation continued.
Speaking to the media, a senior police official said, “We are taking this matter seriously. Though the object has been secured, further analysis is required before any conclusions can be drawn. An investigation is underway to determine how the object ended up in such a public place.”
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any suspicious items or activities to the police immediately. The swift response from law enforcement and bomb experts prevented any potential danger and restored order in the area.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to trace possible leads.
