Agartala, September 10: Seeking immediate police intervention, the Tripura State Committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has raised allegations of repeated attacks on students at several schools and colleges across the state and demanded swift legal action against those responsible.
The student organisation submitted a memorandum to the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), claiming that a number of incidents had occurred during the last two weeks. It urged the police authorities to ensure the safety of students and prevent further incidents on educational campuses.
According to the SFI memorandum, alleged attacks were reported at Charilam English Medium School, Bharat Chandra Nagar School, MBB College, Ramthakur College and Ramkrishna College.
The organisation said police complaints had been filed and FIRs registered in connection with the incidents. It further claimed that details of the alleged accused, including their addresses, had been furnished to the authorities.
The SFI, however, alleged that arrests had not yet been made in the cases. It said the reported delay in taking action had created apprehension among students and raised concerns about their security within and around educational institutions.
The organisation also expressed concern over what it described as a weakening of the democratic atmosphere on campuses. According to the SFI, students should be able to voice their opinions, hold peaceful programmes and participate in legitimate organisational activities without facing threats or violence.
In its representation to the IGP, the student body sought directions to the police officials concerned for speedy investigation of the cases and appropriate legal action based on available evidence.
The SFI also called for equal protection of students irrespective of their political or organisational affiliations. It stressed that educational institutions should remain secure environments where students can focus on academics while exercising their legitimate democratic rights.
The organisation further urged the police and administration to respond promptly to complaints involving students and take preventive measures to ensure that incidents of violence or intimidation do not disrupt academic activities.
The allegations were contained in the memorandum submitted by the SFI. The police response to the allegations and the latest status of the cases were not immediately available.
