Agartala, May 28: Cyclone Remal has significantly disrupted power supply across Tripura, causing extensive damage to the state’s power infrastructure.
Power Minister Ratanlal Nath announced in a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday.
He informed that 668 poles have been broken, 234 km of power lines have been disrupted, and 82 transformers have been damaged.
Minister Nath indicated that the initial estimates suggest the department will face a loss of approximately ₹2.5 crores, with the potential for this amount to increase as more detailed assessments are conducted.
Joined by MD TSECL Debasish Sarkar and other officials, Nath explained that fallen trees and branches have caused widespread damage to power lines and poles in various locations.
Despite the challenges, power department staff and contractors have been working around the clock since last night to restore power, in coordination with the forest and disaster management teams.
Nath assured that if there are no further storms, power supply should be fully restored across the state within the next three days.
Currently, Tripura has around 10 lakh power subscribers, a number that is rapidly increasing due to ongoing modernization efforts. These efforts include the installation of underground power cables aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply throughout the state.
