Opposition CPIM supporters and leaders agitated in front of the main gate of the Tripura police headquarters in Agartala on Saturday.
The agitators demanded that the police take necessary action so that the opposition supporters could return home and who since the recent election results are unable to live in their houses due to post-poll violence in which the ruling party goons are involved. Former MP and CPIM senior leader Sankar Prashad Datta alleged that since the assembly election results were announced on March 3 large section of people are living in panic situation.
He added that under current government people of the state have lost their fundamental rights and democracy does not exist in Tripura as at many places the BJP goons have been attacking the common citizens and despite complaints till now no response has been noticed.
Datta added that there has been several such incidents of violence including at just stone throwing distance from the state assembly in the Gorkha Basti, Bholananda Palli and Vivekananda residential complex where poor and daily labourers live.He added that in those areas several families especially those affiliated with the opposition parties are unable to live as there has been repeated incidents of attacked by the ruling party hooligans. The former MP added that similar situation exists at several areas in the state where people cannot live freely and so today CPIM is launching a protest in the police headquarters against this and demanding that the police and administration take necessary measures so that people can live in their homes and without any fear. He also added that if no action is taken to normalise the situation then they shall go for bigger agitation.Later a delegation of CPIM also met the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura District and submitted a memorandum.
