Agartala, September 11: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday took a first-hand look at the conditions at Maharajganj Bazar, focusing on traffic congestion, sanitation and facilities at the city’s major commercial centre.
Saha’s visit included an inspection of the fish market and surrounding areas, where he spoke with traders, customers and local residents about problems encountered in their day-to-day activities.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister briefed him on the existing infrastructure and management arrangements. Saha also examined the movement of pedestrians and commercial vehicles in the crowded market area.
The handling of goods vehicles emerged as one of the key concerns during the inspection. Saha discussed the traffic problems created by loading and unloading and called for suitable arrangements to prevent such activities from obstructing normal movement.
He stressed the need for better traffic management, particularly during busy hours, while ensuring that traders can continue their business without unnecessary disruption.
The Chief Minister also reviewed cleanliness and waste-management arrangements at the market. He urged traders and shoppers to use designated disposal points and avoid littering, saying public cooperation was essential for maintaining proper sanitation.
Saha said the issues identified during the inspection would be discussed with the relevant government departments and followed up with appropriate measures.
According to the Chief Minister, efforts would be made to improve Maharajganj Bazar through better infrastructure and more effective management of traffic and sanitation. He said the aim was to make the marketplace more orderly and convenient for everyone.
Saha further underlined the importance of balancing the interests of traders with the needs of consumers. Any improvement plan, he said, should provide shoppers with a safer and more comfortable environment while ensuring better working conditions for those conducting business at the market.
He added that the administration would examine the available options and take up the required improvements in a phased manner.
