Agartala, September 11: Two men were arrested and a firearm, ammunition and Yaba tablets were seized during a joint search operation by Tripura Police and the BSF in Sepahijala district, officials said.
The operation was launched following a specific intelligence input about suspected illegal activities in the South Kalamchoura (Galachipa) area under Sonamura sub-division.
A team from Kalamchoura and Sonamura police stations, supported by personnel of the 81st Battalion BSF, conducted the raid under the leadership of the Sonamura SDPO.
During the operation, the security personnel recovered 120 grams of Yaba tablets, a factory-made pistol and five live rounds.
Police identified the arrested men as Joynal Hossen (37), a resident of Madhya Boxanagar, and Prasanjit Sarkar (35) of South Kalamchoura.
The seized drugs, firearm and ammunition were taken into custody following the arrests. Police said the action was based on intelligence inputs and aimed at curbing the illegal movement of narcotics and arms in the area.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the seized contraband and firearm and ascertain whether others are involved in the case.
