Agartala, September 26: Jharna Debbarma has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Women (TCW) for a fresh three-year term, with the state government also naming three new members to fill vacancies in the statutory body.
The Education (Social Welfare & Social Education) Department issued the notification on September 25, 2026, stating that Debbarma’s renewed tenure would be effective from September 24.
Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury) and Mampi Das have been appointed as members of the Commission. Their three-year terms will begin from the dates on which they assume charge.
The government’s decision to retain Debbarma as Chairperson has been taken under Section 6(iv) of the relevant Gazette Notification and the Tripura Commission for Women Rules, 2008. The rules specify the service conditions applicable to the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and members.
The orders, issued by the Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura, have been communicated to senior authorities, including the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police. Officials of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department have also been informed.
The latest appointments have altered the composition of the Commission while ensuring continuity in its leadership. The TCW is tasked with addressing matters related to women’s rights, safety, welfare and empowerment and taking up grievances and other concerns affecting women in the state.
The three newly appointed members will join the Commission in carrying out its statutory functions, including awareness, welfare and outreach activities as well as consideration of complaints concerning women.
The reconstitution follows the existence of vacancies in the Commission and is intended to strengthen its functioning by filling the vacant positions.
With the new appointments in place and Debbarma continuing at the helm, the TCW will carry forward its statutory work concerning women’s welfare and rights across Tripura.
