**Agartala, September 26:** University Law College, Gauhati University emerged winner of the Moot Court Competition at the All India Law Graduate Conclave 2026, organised by the University School of Law & Research, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).
The three-day conclave concluded on Saturday with a Valedictory and Prize Distribution Ceremony at the Central Auditorium of USTM in Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya. Former Chief Justice of India Justice B. R. Gavai and Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya Justice Revati Mohite Dere were the chief dignitaries at the concluding programme.
The winning Moot Court team, comprising Dishamoni Deka, Adishree Hazarika and Anju Devi, received a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. NEF Law College’s team of Stuti Pradhan, Kuldeep Bhattacharjya and Alokesh Mandal was declared runner-up and received Rs. 50,000.
Harshita Sai Lakshmi of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, was adjudged Best Researcher and received Rs. 10,000, while Dishamoni Deka of University Law College, Gauhati University, won the Best Speaker Award carrying Rs. 15,000. The Best Memorial Award went to North Eastern Hill University, represented by Rashmi Rekha Boruah, Gaurav Bharali and Kessica Thapa, with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.
The conclave brought together law students for a range of academic and competitive activities aimed at testing their legal knowledge, research, analytical and advocacy skills. The competitions included the Moot Court, National Debate, Law Quiz, Crime Scene Investigation, Judgment Writing and Extempore Speech contests.
In the National Debate Competition, Partha Sarathi Gogoi and Kripanjali Sarma of NEF Law College, Gauhati University, secured the winning position. Agastya Kashyap of JB Law College was adjudged Best Speaker, while Tonmoy Sarma of Nerim Law College and Ishika Das of University Law College, Gauhati University, received the second and third Best Speaker awards respectively.
Shrijan Sharma and Eshan Arup Borkotoky of JB Law College won the Law Quiz. Nishikesh Parashar and Mushadika Sultana of Nerim Law College were first runners-up, while Tushar Azad and Sashank K. Shukla of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, secured the second runner-up position.
In the Crime Scene Investigation Competition, Samrat Choudhury and Roanit Sharma of Dispur Law College emerged winners. Dolma Mazumdar and Arifan Nahar of BRM Law College were first runners-up, followed by Pinaj Rafi and Nitu Nath of JB Law College.
Nidhi Sonware of Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur, won the Judgment Writing Competition. Aradhya Lunia Kashyap of Dispur Law College and Mohit Singh of Assam University, Silchar, secured the first and second runner-up positions respectively.
Habiba Afrin Choudhary of JB Law College won the Extempore Speech Competition. Hrishikesh Upadhyay of Nowgong Law College was the first runner-up, while Archita Garg of USTM secured the second runner-up position.
The valedictory ceremony was attended by USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, former Gauhati High Court Judge Justice (Retd.) B. P. Katakey, Gauhati High Court Bar Association President and Senior Advocate Angshuman Bora, NRL Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Meghalaya State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission member Dr Bijoy A. Sangma and Director of Medical Administration, P.A. Sangma International Medical College & Hospital, Prof. (Dr.) Amal Chandra Kataki, among others.
USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. G. D. Sharma delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Subhram Rajkhowa, Professor Emeritus, presented a report on the conclave.
Chief Justice Justice Revati Mohite Dere delivered the keynote address, followed by the Chief Guest Address by former CJI Justice B. R. Gavai.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Padma Shri Dr S. Sahariah, Pro Vice Chancellor, USTM.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India. The university received an ‘A Grade’ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first assessment cycle in 2021 and has been ranked among the top 200 universities by NIRF.
