**Agartala, September 24:** State Election Commissioner (SEC) Dr P. K. Chakraborty and Director General of Police (in-charge) G.S. Rao on Thursday reviewed the election preparedness of the North Tripura district administration and police ahead of the September 28 General Election to Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
During their visit, the SEC and DGP-in-charge inspected the Strong Room at Jubarajnagar RD Block and the Counting Hall at Balidhum S.B. School. They examined the arrangements at both facilities and took stock of preparations for polling, the safekeeping of election materials and the subsequent counting process.
The officials later chaired a review meeting at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Magistrate and Collector, North Tripura. Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, Additional SP, Election Observer, Additional District Magistrate and Collector (PP), Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers and Sub-Divisional Police Officers attended the meeting.
The meeting covered key aspects of election management, including security deployment, logistical arrangements, monitoring mechanisms and other measures required for the smooth conduct of the polls.
Dr Chakraborty stressed the need for completing all necessary arrangements to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Security deployment and mechanisms for monitoring the electoral process were also reviewed during the meeting.
The district-level inspection formed part of the Election Commission’s ongoing review of poll arrangements ahead of the Village Committee elections.
Polling for the Village Committee elections is scheduled for September 28, while counting of votes will be conducted on October 5.
