**Agartala, September 24:** The three-day Neermahal Jal Utsav 2026 will be organised at Melaghar from October 7 to 9, highlighting Tripura’s aquatic heritage, folk traditions, cultural practices and tourism potential centred around the historic Neermahal and Rudrasagar Lake.
Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman chaired a preparatory meeting at the conference hall of the Melaghar Municipal Council on Thursday to review arrangements for the annual festival. He directed officials concerned to take necessary measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The festival, held annually around the iconic water palace, is expected to feature a mix of cultural and sporting programmes. These will include performances based on *Mansamangal*, traditional boat races, swimming competitions and yoga events.
Speaking at the meeting, Barman said the festival represents more than a programme of entertainment, as it reflects the longstanding relationship between Rudrasagar Lake, its surrounding ecosystem and the communities whose daily lives and traditions are closely linked with the water body.
The minister also highlighted the role of the festival in promoting Neermahal as a major tourism destination in Tripura. The historic palace, situated amid the waters of Rudrasagar, will serve as the backdrop for programmes showcasing the state’s cultural and natural heritage.
The festival is expected to attract visitors from across Tripura as well as other parts of the country, with its combination of Neermahal’s architectural heritage, the scenic surroundings of Rudrasagar and traditional cultural performances.
Barman appealed to people to attend the festival with their families and experience the natural beauty and heritage of Neermahal and Rudrasagar.
Over the years, the Neermahal Water Festival has developed into an annual platform combining tourism promotion, cultural expression and community participation, while drawing attention to the historical and ecological importance of Rudrasagar and its surrounding areas.
