Agartala, September 23:** Class IX students of PM SHRI South Jumerdhepa High School in Sepahijala district recently took part in an industrial visit under the Agriculture Trade, gaining first-hand exposure to farming activities and workplace practices as part of Tripura’s NSQF-based vocational education initiative.
The field-based programme was designed to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and practical learning, enabling students to see how agricultural skills and concepts are applied in real-world situations.
A press note said the exposure also sought to familiarise the students with agriculture as a skill-oriented sector and provide them with an understanding of employment and career opportunities available in the field.
Valeur Fabtex Pvt. Ltd., the school’s designated Vocational Training Provider (VTP), supported the initiative. The school’s Vocational Trainer accompanied the students during the visit, which was organised under the leadership of Ikram Hossen, State Coordinator of the organisation, in coordination with school authorities and the School Education Department.
The programme is part of the Vocationalisation of School Education initiative under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), which promotes the integration of vocational skills with regular school education and seeks to provide students with industry exposure and employment-oriented learning.
For 2025-26, the Project Approval Board (PAB) of Samagra Shiksha and the PM SHRI Scheme under the Ministry of Education approved NSQF-compliant vocational education across seven sectors in 191 selected government high and higher secondary schools in Tripura.
The sectors are IT–ITeS, Electronics, Agriculture, Organised Retail, Power, Automotive and Telecom.
The approved plan provides for 138 schools to introduce a first vocational sector, while 53 schools where vocational education is already being offered will add a second sector.
The programme is being implemented by the Tripura School Education Department through Samagra Shiksha and the PM SHRI Scheme, with assistance from the designated VTP.
The Agriculture Trade visit formed part of the practical component of the course and enabled students to gain learning experiences outside the conventional classroom setting.
According to the press note, such field exposure can help students improve practical knowledge, workplace awareness, communication and problem-solving skills, while also giving them greater insight into career prospects in agriculture.
