Agartala: Jan 05: On Sunday, the All Tripura Blind Committee organized an event to celebrate the 216th birth anniversary of the great Louis Braille, the inventor of the Braille system. The celebration took place at the Agartala Press Club, where a cultural program and a felicitation ceremony were held in his honor. The event was inaugurated by Tinku Roy, the Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education. Other dignitaries present included Bolai Goswami, the Chairperson of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Sukanta Ghosh, the Secretary of the Tripura Sports Council, and several others.
During the event, two distinguished athletes were honored, along with students who excelled in their Secondary and Higher Secondary exams. In his speech, Minister Tinku Roy emphasized the government’s efforts to ensure that differently-abled individuals lead a life similar to other children. The Social Welfare and Social Education Department is working diligently to make this possible. He also highlighted that the government provides a monthly allowance of 2,000 rupees to differently-abled people in Tripura. This allowance is given to those from Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) categories who have at least 60% disability. Recently, the approval was granted to provide the allowance to 3,000 differently-abled individuals in the state.
The celebration of Louis Braille’s birth anniversary served as a reminder of the importance of accessibility and inclusion, and the event marked a step toward improving the quality of life for differently-abled individuals in Tripura.
