Agartala, December 30: The CPIM in Tripura has launched statewide protests against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement in Parliament concerning Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
The agitation follows similar demonstrations organized by the Congress party.
As part of their state-wide protest programs, the Left parties held a rally in Khowai town on Monday.
The rally began at the CPIM office and passed through several areas of Khowai town before concluding in front of Kohinoor at Khowai Subhash Park Market. Following the procession, a public meeting was held to address the protesters.
Prominent CPIM leaders, including Khowai MLA Nirmal Biswas, Palash Bhowmik, and Padma Kumar Debbarma, attended the meeting and strongly criticized Amit Shah’s statement.
Speakers at the gathering Biswas accused the Union Minister of attempting to undermine Ambedkar’s legacy and the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution.
The CPIM MLA demanded an apology and Shah’s resignation over the remarks, which he claimed insulted the Father of the Indian Constitution.
The protestors also raised slogans against the Central Government’s proposal to amend the Constitution for implementing the ‘one nation, one election’ policy. They argued that such changes would threaten federalism and democratic principles.
The CPIM leaders vowed to intensify their agitation across the state until Amit Shah issues a public clarification and retracts his statement.
