Agartala, October 3: Tripura CPIM state secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government in Tripura, accusing it of rampant corruption and the total collapse of law and order under Chief Minister Manik Saha.
Speaking at a protest rally organized by the CPIM on Thursday, Choudhury claimed that corruption and the BJP government had become synonymous in the state.
Addressing the gathering in Agartala, Choudhury said, “Though they may be two separate words, corruption and the BJP government have now become synonyms in Tripura. The state, under the current administration, is witnessing widespread corruption, from the Secretariat to the Panchayat level.”
He went on to allege that the people of Tripura, particularly in rural areas, were enduring severe financial hardships, exacerbated by nepotism, growing unemployment, and a complete breakdown of governance.
Choudhury warned that if the government does not address the suffering of the public, the people, who came out in large numbers despite the festive season, would “teach them a lesson.”
Hundreds of CPIM supporters braved rain to take to the streets of the capital city, carrying placards, red flags, and banners.
The demonstrators voiced their anger against the rising atrocities against women and children, the ongoing financial crisis, and the lack of support for flood victims.
Protesters also called for an end to corruption, filling vacant government posts, and addressing the severe unemployment crisis.
The rally began at Orient Chowmuhani and culminated in a public address at Paradise Chowmuhani, where senior CPIM leaders, including former Chief Minister and politburo member Manik Sarkar, delivered speeches.
Sarkar, in his address, accused the BJP government of deliberately trying to divide the people of Tripura along religious and caste lines in an attempt to deflect attention from pressing issues.
“The current regime is using divisive tactics to distract the public from the real problems. Instead of addressing the growing unemployment and financial crisis, they are fueling communal tensions,” Sarkar said.
He also criticized the police for allegedly acting in a partisan manner, failing to take appropriate action against those responsible for attacks on the opposition and disturbances in the state.
Sarkar urging the public to remain vigilant against divisive forces and to continue their struggle until their demands are met.
The CPIM leader called for continued agitation across Tripura to put pressure on what they described as an “anti-people and failed government.”
The CPIM’s protest rally marks the latest in a series of events by the opposition party aimed at highlighting the BJP government’s alleged failures ahead of the upcoming Village Council elections likely to take place by the end of the year.
The protest not only demonstrated the growing discontent among sections of Tripura’s population but also underscored the opposition’s determination to hold the government accountable for its actions.
A week ago opposition Congress also organized a massive protest in the capital against the government on similar issues.
