Agartala, July 27: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) organized a protest rally in Agartala on Saturday, condemning the central Budget terming it as anti-people. They alleged that the Budget would exacerbate the wealth disparity between the rich and the poor, increase unemployment, and fuel inflation.
The rally commenced from the Agartala City Centre and passed through the streets of the capital city. Protesters marched while chanting slogans against the central government and the Budget.
Later speaking to reporters, Opposition Leader and CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chowdhury stated, “For the third time, Modi took oath in the name of Vikshit Bharat, but the Budget presented is not for Vikshit Bharat but for the billionaires of India.”
He further pointed out that the Budget lacks proposals for new jobs, industries, market expansion, and investment in employment generation.
“We, the CPIM, are opposing this Budget,” Chowdhury added.
He demanded that the government could still make amendments by providing Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers, filling the 30 lakh vacant central government jobs, and increasing investment in the MSME sector to create more employment.
Chowdhury, a former MP emphasized that protests against the Budget and the Modi government were being organized across the country.
