Agartala, June 23: Nine Bangladeshi nationals, including six women, were arrested at Agartala railway station on Saturday evening as they were about to board a train bound for other parts of the country, a senior rail police official reported.
All nine individuals were produced in court today, with police seeking remand for further interrogation.
Tapas Das, officer-in-charge of the Government Railway Police station in Agartala, stated that the detained individuals had entered Tripura illegally and were at the railway station intending to travel to Delhi, Bengaluru, and Gujarat in search of jobs.
This latest incident brings the total number of Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Tripura to 55 in less than two months.
All of the trespassers entered India through clandestine routes, aiming to find employment in other parts of the country.
Despite most of the 856 km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura being fenced and strict security measures in place, Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas are frequently apprehended in the northeastern state.
