According to Roy, Cyclone Remal is projected to make landfall in Bangladesh and West Bengal by midnight on Sunday. As a result, the following districts in Tripura are expected to experience heavy thunderstorms, accompanied by intense rainfall and winds ranging from 50 to 60 kmph: South, Gomati, Sepahijala, Dhalai, Khowai, and West Tripura. Unakoti and North Tripura districts are also likely to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Rainfall is anticipated across all districts on Monday, with Gomati and Sepahijala districts facing the highest risk. A red alert has been issued for these two districts. On Tuesday, North, Unakoti, and Dhalai districts may experience heavy rainfall, while other districts could see light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey emphasized the need for preparedness. District Magistrates were instructed on May 24 to take necessary actions to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Remal. A multi-departmental meeting, chaired by the Chief Secretary, resulted in key decisions. Anganwadi centers and educational institutions will remain closed on May 27 and 28. District Magistrates and the Food Department have been directed to stock essential food supplies. Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will deploy three teams across different districts. The Electricity Department has been proactive in ensuring uninterrupted power supply, while collaborative efforts from the Forest Department, Fire Service personnel, and Public Works Department (PWD) are underway.
In a plea for cooperation, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey urged all citizens to contribute to the collective effort in dealing with Cyclone Remal.
