Agartala, April 6: Putting an end to speculations and rumors surrounding his absence from the political arena, former Chief Minister and CPIM politburo member Manik Sarkar made a striking statement by campaigning for Asish Saha, the INDIA block candidate contesting for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency under the Congress symbol.
Addressing a campaign public meeting at Bankumari in Agartala, Sarkar called upon supporters of both CPIM and Congress to unite behind Asish Saha’s candidacy.
He emphasized the importance of casting votes and warned against abstaining, which could potentially benefit the ruling BJP.
Sarkar launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing the party of attempting to undermine the secular foundations of India and its constitutional values.
He urged voters to support INDIA block candidates from any alliance partner, including Congress and CPIM, as a means to counter the alleged threat posed by the BJP’s RSS-guided ideology.
Alleging BJP’s tactics of polarization and misuse of central agencies like ED, CBI, and IT to suppress dissent, Sarkar criticized the party for what he perceived as an assault on democracy.
He cited instances of opposition voices being stifled in parliament and assemblies, alleging fascist tendencies within the ruling party.
In a targeted critique, Sarkar also took aim at TIPRA Motha, Tripura’s main opposition party, for aligning with the NDA.
He accused them of betraying the indigenous people of the state, adding another layer of complexity to Tripura’s political landscape.
With Sarkar’s unexpected endorsement, the dynamics of the upcoming elections in Tripura have taken a dramatic turn, underscoring the fierce competition and ideological battles at play in the state.
