Sonamura, April 4: A violent incident unfolded in the Nutanbari area of Sonamura sub-division, Tripura, on Thursday night, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to two others. The clash involved a group of 30-40 Indian smugglers who defied the curfew in the border region, attempting to transport banned items from India to Bangladesh.
According to a statement issued by the Border Security Force (BSF), their jawans confronted the smugglers during the illicit operation. However, the situation escalated rapidly as the mob surrounded the BSF personnel. The smugglers attempted to disarm the jawans and inflicted damage on BSF surveillance equipment.
In the ensuing melee, three jawans sustained serious injuries. One of them narrowly escaped a dao attack to the head but suffered injuries to the back, face, neck, and chest. In an act of self-defense, the BSF fired to disperse the mob.
Tragically, Shahid Mia lost his life during the confrontation, while Kabir Hussain is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Authorities have filed an FIR at the Sonamura police station in connection with the incident.
The unfenced area of Sonamura sub-division has gained notoriety for smuggling activities, infiltration attempts, and attacks on BSF personnel. The incident underscores the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining law and order along the border.🚔🔒🌿
