Agartala, December 22: In a strong protest against the unprecedented suspension of a record number of Members of Parliament (MPs) during the Winter Session, opposition parties Tripura Pradesh Congress and CPIM separately took to the streets of Agartala on Friday.
Marching from their respective party offices, the opposition members conducted rallies , echoing slogans that called for the preservation of democracy.
The protestors voiced their concerns over what they perceive as an attempt to stifle the opposition’s voice in Parliament by preventing them from addressing critical issues.
Accusing the present regime of putting democracy at risk, both parties raised objections to the Prime Minister and Home Minister’s alleged reluctance to address the House and respond to the Opposition’s concerns.
The suspended MPs’ inability to contribute to parliamentary debates, including recent security breaches and pressing issues such as unemployment and communal disharmony in Manipur, formed a central part of the opposition’s grievances.
The demonstration underscored the opposition’s commitment to upholding democratic principles, demanding a platform for dialogue and a fair representation of diverse voices in the country’s legislative process.
It may be added here a total of 146 Members of Parliament, all from the Opposition, faced suspension from both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha during the ongoing Parliament Winter Session.
The suspension was attributed to their ‘unruly behavior’ as they protested, demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security breach incident on December 13.
Meanwhile, earlier today the INDIA Block organized a significant protest at Jantar Mantar in opposition to the suspension of MPs.
