Imphal, Nov 4
Manipur health department has issued alert after the state reported a spike in the number of dengue cases this year despite the rainy season already winding up.
So far this year, as many as 358 dengue positive cases are recorded. The highest count the state witnessed was 3 years ago in 2019 with altogether 359 cases.
Notably, with 2022 still to come to a close, the dengue cases are expected to be highest this year.
Speaking to media today in this regard at his residence at Lamphel, Manipur health minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan said that public negligence is the main factor behind the rise in dengue cases.
He further said that 3 people including a child have succumbed to the illness while 8 are active cases and undergoing necessary treatment.
He explained that the dengue cases are reported from four main districts namely Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Imphal West and Imphal East.
Saying that the government is taking up necessary measures like fogging, early detection and awareness programmes, he appealed to the people to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the government to prevent dengue infection.
The health minister cautioned that clear stagnant water is main breeding ground for the mosquito belonging to the genus Aedes, responsible for spread of dengue.
He appealed to the people to avoid keeping stagnant water even in kitchen and also to use mosquito nets as preventive measures.
He maintained that public awareness and cooperation is key since the spread is localised even within a district.
