Agartala, June 6: Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, founder of the TIPRA Motha party, on Thursday announced that he would demand to New Delhi for a special package for Tripura’s indigenous population, referring to similar demands raised by other BJP alliance partner like JD(U) and TDP.
Speaking at the third foundation day of the Tipra Women Federation at Agartala Town Hall on Thursday, Debbarma emphasized there is no shame in advocating for this cause.
Pradyot said, “Today if Nitish Kumar can demand for special package, if Chandrababa Naidu can demad for special package then if I demand for special package for the indigenous people of my state and who have voted for them (BJP), there is nothing wrong or anything to be ashamed of because I am not demanding anything for myself and we must get it.”
He argued that demanding a special package for the indigenous people of Tripura, who support the BJP, is equally justified and stressed that his demands are for community development, not personal gain.
Debbarma, a royal scion of Tripura, clarified that the call for a special package aims to uplift the indigenous population without disadvantaging other communities.
He vowed to continue his efforts until the indigenous people’s constitutional rights — including socio-political, cultural, linguistic, economic, and land rights — are secured, along with direct funding for the TTAADC.
Referring the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Debbarma noted that the BJP’s poor performance in some northeastern states like Meghalaya, Manipur reflects tribal dissatisfaction.
He said in the entire North Eastern region any tribal community that has shown its full support to the BJP, it is in Tripura and so the BJP should also reciprocate it by awarding with assurances of protecting the tribal population’s constitutional rights.
Debbarma urged the BJP to reciprocate the support shown by the tribal community in Tripura by safeguarding their constitutional rights.
All senior leader of the TIPRA Motha were present in the programme.
He called for the tribal population of Tripura to unite in their efforts to secure their demands and rights from the central government in New Delhi.
