Agartala: Dec 14: Four MLAs, two from the rulling National People’s Party, one Independent and one from the Trinamool Congress joined the BJP today. Two days ago West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visit Meghalaya after her visit Trinamool Congress MLA leaves TMC and join BJP.
The move is being seen as part of the BJP’s bid to expand its reach in the Northeastern region ahead of the Assembly polls in the state. TMC became the biggest Opposition party in Meghalaya after 12 Congress MLAs led by former CM Mukul Sangma joined it in November 2021.
Assam Chief Minister said “In Meghalaya, BJP will take its tally from two at present to form a government that will further the welfare policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state”.
After quitted TMC HM Shangpliang said that the BJP was growing very rapidly in Meghalaya and offered hope for the change in the state.
