Agartala, Oct 26 : Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Monday chaired a meeting of the State Advisory Board here to discuss the revision of minimum wages, labour welfare and the effective implementation of labour laws, officials said.
The meeting, held at the Labour Directorate office on Office Lane, focused on protecting workers’ rights, strengthening social security and improving the socio-economic conditions of the state’s workforce.
MLA Abhishek Debroy, members of the State Advisory Board and senior officials of the Labour Department attended the meeting.
The discussions centred on recommendations to be submitted to the state government on the fixation and revision of minimum wages, workers’ entitlements and the implementation of existing labour laws and labour codes.
Addressing the meeting, Roy highlighted the board’s role in advising the government on labour-related issues, particularly wage policies, workers’ rights and welfare measures.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to protect the dignity and interests of workers and improve the living standards of labourers employed across various sectors.
The minister also emphasised that government policies and welfare schemes must reach their intended beneficiaries to ensure that workers receive the benefits and protections they are entitled to, officials said.
Participants deliberated on measures to create a fair working environment, expand social security coverage and strengthen the enforcement of labour laws to safeguard workers’ interests.
Debroy highlighted the importance of reviewing minimum wages periodically in line with workers’ needs and changing economic conditions. He also called for effective implementation of labour codes and welfare initiatives to improve the condition of the working population.
The meeting provided a platform for board members and government representatives to assess key labour-related concerns and discuss possible measures to address them.
The deliberations also covered the need to strengthen labour administration and ensure that statutory protections and welfare benefits reach eligible workers across different sectors.
Officials said the recommendations emerging from the meeting would be placed before the state government for consideration and could help shape future policies on wage revision, labour welfare and workers’ rights.
The board’s deliberations assume significance as the state seeks to strengthen worker protections, improve working conditions and ensure more effective delivery of welfare measures to the labour force, they added.
