Agartala, March 22:Ratan Das, the CPIM candidate for the assembly by-elections in Tripura’s Ramnagar constituency, as part of the INDIA bloc submitted his nomination papers
today amidst a massive rally of CPIM and Congress supporters.
The colorful procession, which traversed through the streets of Agartala, saw supporters waving flags and banners of the eight parties constituting the INDIA Bloc, including CPIM and Congress.
Das urged voters to support him, criticizing the current BJP government as nonfunctional and anti-people.
He accused the government of failing on all fronts and failing to fulfill its pre-election promises, branding it as a regime of “tall talks with big hoardings and posters” but little action on the ground.
Das also highlighted the alleged “fascistic terror” prevailing in Tripura under the BJP, where democracy is stifled, and opposition voices are suppressed.
Senior CPIM leaders, including Jitendra Chowdhury and former MP Sankar Prasad Datta, along with Congress Working Committee member Sudip Roy Barman, participated in the rally.
Roy Barman, a former Minister, condemned the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate, asserting that the BJP’s actions betray a disregard for democracy.
He emphasized the BJP’s use of pressure tactics to silence opposition voices, citing the freezing of Congress party accounts and the repeated notices issued by investigative agencies.
Roy Barman, also a MLA, reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to defending democracy and expressed confidence in garnering public support.
With the by-election scheduled for April 19, coinciding with the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, the campaign intensifies as Das, a former councilor and MLA from the area, aims to regain the constituency seat.
As the election fervor mounts, the contest in Ramnagar assembly constituency becomes a battleground for defending democratic values and challenging the dominance of the ruling BJP.
