Agartala: Mar 17: In a commendable effort, the East Agartala Police Station has cracked the case of stolen cooking stoves from the Mid-Day Meal room at Bodhjung School in the capital. The incident came to light when school authorities reported the theft of two cooking stoves on March 12. Initially, the police investigation was delayed due to the absence of a formal complaint from the school.
However, on March 16, after the school headmaster, Subrata Bhattacharya, filed a case at the East Agartala police station, swift action ensued. Sunil Debbarma, a notorious thief, was apprehended from an open area in the city. During his interrogation, Sunil revealed the location where he had concealed the stolen stoves—within the Lalmatiya area. Additionally, three accomplices—Bhanu Debnath, Bijay Biswas, and Gopal Gupta—were also arrested from the vicinity near Maharajganj Bazar.
Further investigation led the police to another theft involving Bhanu Debnath, who had stolen a TV from the Manthai area and hidden it in the Central Road area. Subsequently, all the stolen items were recovered from both Lalmatiya and Central Road.
Authorities suspect that more individuals might be involved in this criminal network, possibly connected to other theft cases. East Agartala police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Sanjit Sen, confirmed that the suspects will be presented in court and remanded for further questioning.
