Agartala, March 13: Chief Minister Manik Saha announced plans to equip all hospitals in Tripura with modern trauma centers, aimed at reducing travel time and saving lives during medical emergencies.
This initiative targets a significant reduction in the need to refer medical emergency cases, particularly those arising from road traffic accidents, a leading cause of fatalities in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of new facilities at Tripura Medical College at Hapania in the outskirts of Agartala, Chief Minister Saha emphasized the importance of improved healthcare infrastructure within the state.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing advanced medical services locally, thus eliminating the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state, which often incurs high costs and additional burdens for families.
Saha, also the Health Minister if the state underscored the significance of efficient emergency services and trauma care in determining a hospital’s status and the quality of healthcare delivery.
He stressed the importance of doctors being able to handle emergency situations effectively, advocating for a treatment-first approach over unnecessary referrals.
In addition to AGMC and GBP hospital, the main referral hospitals in Agartala, modern trauma care facilities have already been established in five district hospitals across Tripura, with plans for further expansion.
The day also saw the digital inauguration of several other medical facilities at Tripura Medical College, including new operation theaters and specialized units for eye care and surgical skills training.
