Agartala, March 5: Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb received a warm reception at Agartala’s MBB airport as he returned for the first time since being named the BJP candidate for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency. BJP supporters and Deb’s followers greeted him with flower bouquets and traditional ‘Rishas’. Expressing his affection for Tripura, Deb, at present Rajya Sabha member emphasized the importance of its people and who are his source of strength.
His nomination replaces that of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik, who previously held the seat. Tripura has two Lok Sabha seats – East Tripura and West Tripura constituency, and both are in control of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
With the upcoming elections, BJP is yet to announce its candidate for the schedule tribe reserved East Tripura constituency in Tripura.
During the press conference Deb get emotional and said “I am back as the PM has again given me an opportunity and if the people of Tripura love me vote me. I hope that the people of the state will again vote for me, I might have made mistakes earlier but never conspired against anyone. Still I hope the people of this state shall again stand by me”.
