Agartala, January 27:In a significant development, GRP in Agartala railway station apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals today, along with an Indian citizen accused of aiding them in illegally crossing the international border.
Inspector Sanjit Sen, the officer in charge of the Government Railway Police Station (GRPS), Agartala provided details of the joint operation conducted by the GRP and Railway Police Force (RPF) at Badharghat Railway Station, the primary railway hub in Agartala.
The suspects were detained near the Kanchanjunga Express, and upon interrogation, they confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals.
Two of them possessed national identity cards from Bangladesh, accompanied by a mobile phone.
The Indian tout, identified as Runi Muqsid Khan from Maharashtra, had various documents and Indian currency in his possession. The individuals shall be produced before a local court for legal proceedings.
The Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Billal Hossain, Sohel Miah, Ajijul Hakim, Samim Miah, and Hafizul Islam.
During the initial investigation, Runi Muqsid Khan claimed to be involved in the garment business and stated that he was accompanying the Bangladeshi nationals for potential trade activities.
This incident comes after a January 01 statement by the Border Security Force (BSF), reporting the arrest of 744 individuals attempting illegal border crossings throughout 2023. Among them were 112 Rohingya migrants, 337 Bangladeshi nationals, and 295 Indian citizens in various operations.
It’s noteworthy that during the end of last year NIA team had raided twice in Tripura and arrested more than 30 persons who were involved with human trafficking across the border.
Tripura shares a 856 km long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which remain unfenced due to local disputes, creating challenges for border security measures. The recent arrests underscore the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along the border.
