Mizoram Excise and Narcotics officials seized 1 kilo and 22sgrams of heroin and 1 kilo and 74 grams of ganja (cannabis) on Sunday night at Seling in Mizoram-Manipur border Saitual district, about 45 kms east of Aizawl.
Department officials said two persons, Kamkhawlun (44), a resident of Henglep, Churachandpur district in Manipur and Nehminlen (34), a resident of Muoldung Tuibuong, Churachandpur, Manipur were nabbed along with the contraband.
The seized drugs were smuggled from Myanmar across the 404-km long porous international border with Mizoram, officials said.
They were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and were produced Special Court(NDPS Act) Court on Monday. A Ford car bearing registration number MZ01 K – 1420, used for transportation of the seized contraband was also detained.
The state Excise and Narcotics department officials have seized 71 kilos and 495 grams of heroin, 121 kilos and 415 grams of ganja, 46 kilos and 715 grams of methamphetamine and 301 grams of opium from January 1 till September 30.
Officials said that this year’s heroin seizure during the last 9 months by the department is almost double of the amount of seizure during the entire 2022 as the department officials seized 33 kilos and 418 grams of heroin during last year.
