Agartala: Nov 22: Atleast 4 perons have been killed in a violent clash erupted at Moikrang in West Karbi Anglong district along the Assam-Meghalaya border in the wee hours today. According to the details of the incident, timber smugglers opened fire at forest guards when they tried to intercept a timber-laden truck.
According to sources, a team of Assam Police and forest guards stopped the absconding truck by puncturing one of its tyres today early morning. 3 smugglers were also detained and brought to Jirikinding.
Later, SP West Karbi Anglong Imdad Ali reportedly directed another team of police personnel to bring the seized truck from the location. However, when the team reached the spot, the personnel were allegedly attacked by an irate mob with sharp weapons and sticks. The Assam Police team fired in retaliation which reportedly killed three members of the mob. One forest guard is also said to be among the deceased.
Meanwhile, the situation is still volatile, and SP Imdad Ali has rushed to the spot with reinforcement.
