Agartala, July 1 – On the occasion of the sixth anniversary of India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST), Tripura’s Finance Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, announced that the state’s tax collection had more than doubled over the past six years, reaching Rs 2765 crore at present.
Speaking at the GST Day celebration organized by state government‘s Finance Department at Agartala town hall, the Minister acknowledged the initial concerns surrounding the implementation of GST but highlighted its significant impact on tax revenues.
Singha Roy emphasized that during the pre-GST era, Tripura’s tax collection stood slightly above Rs 1300 crore. However, since the introduction of GST, the collection has surpassed Rs 2765 crore, more than doubling in the past six years.
He further revealed that the government aims to exceed Rs 3000 crore in tax collection next year.
The Finance Minister highlighted the positive outcomes resulting from increased tax revenue.
He said that as a result of the additional funds, the state government has raised the monthly social pension amount from Rs 700 to Rs 2000. Additionally, employees have received a 20% salary hike, and the honorarium for ICDS, ASHA, and other contractual employees has also been increased.
