Agartala, June 19:The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) organized a protest rally in Agartala to voice their concerns over rampant power cutoffs, water crisis, and the failure of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) in providing essential services like city cleaning and drainage system maintenance.
These issues have exacerbated the problem of waterlogging, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season.
The rally commenced from Paradise Chowmhuni and proceeded through the streets of the capital city, gathering participants along the way.
The demonstrators then assembled in front of the AMC headquarters, raising slogans and demanding a memorandum submission to Mayor Dipak Majumder.
CPIM senior leader Subasis Ganguli expressed disappointment, stating, “Despite Agartala being touted as a Smart City, the ground reality reveals that the residents in and around the capital are deprived of basic services.” The party criticized the inadequate measures taken by the AMC, resulting in widespread power cuts and water scarcity, which have greatly inconvenienced the public.
During the rally, the CPIM highlighted the urgent need for the AMC to address these issues promptly and ensure the well-being of the citizens. They emphasized the importance of efficient city cleaning and an effective drainage system to mitigate waterlogging problems, particularly during the monsoon season.
The CPIM’s protest rally serves as a reminder to the authorities responsible for providing essential services to take immediate action in addressing the grievances of the people and fulfilling their basic needs.
