On demand of arrest and strict punishment for BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Haryana minister Sandeep Singh over allegations of sexual harassment made by wrestlers, members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) organised a protest in Tripura capital Agartala on Thursday.
They also ran a mass signature campaign on the demand for the immediate arrest of both and in which people from various walks of life participated.
The collected signatures will be sent to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi through district collectors in order to extend they support towards the wrestlers and punish those guilty.
The protest is part of four national women’s organisations – the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), Coordination POW-PMS-IJM All India Mahila Sanskritik Sanghatan (AIMSS) and the All India Agragami Mahila Sanghatan (AIAMS), which expressed solidarity with the protesting wrestlers and had given a joint call to hold nationwide protests for the immediate arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Sandeep Singh.
The top grapplers of the country have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi since April 23, demanding that the government make public the findings of an oversight panel that investigated the sexual harassment charges against BJP MP and now former president of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The protesters who gathered at Paradise Chowmhuni also demanded for strict action against those involved in two recent gang rape incidents in Tripura including of a college student in Agartala.
