Towards further strengthening the public distribution system (PDS), Tripura, after pulse and locally produced tea is going to start distribution of spices and at a subsidised price through fair price shops (FPS). On Sunday this was declared by Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department of government of Tripura.Chowdhury said this following a preparatory meeting at Khadya-O-Bhokta Bhawan regarding the inauguration of distribution spices.Four types of spices including chilli, cumin, coriander and turmeric powder shall be distributed through 2050 FPS across the state.He added that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on coming May 16 shall launch the distribution of spices during a programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.More than nine lakh ration card holder families shall be benefiting from this. Chowdhury also informed that the spices shall be supplied by a local spice production entrepreneur and through tender process the entrepreneur has been selected. He added that the state government also has a plan to provide other necessary items as subsidised rates through PDS and very soon shall start distributing edible oil.
