Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday said the state government, following the path shown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has undertaken development and renovation of several temples, heritage sites and tourist destinations, which has started reflecting in increased tourist footfall.
Saha made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a live listening session of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 138th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ at Baishnabtilla Community Hall near Amtali bypass here, along with BJP MLA Mina Rani Sarkar and senior party leaders.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Saha said tourism was an important sector with the potential to contribute significantly to economic development while creating employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
“Following the path shown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have developed and renovated various temples and heritage sites in Tripura. We are seeing the impact through an increase in tourist footfall,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the government was working to develop tourism facilities and promote the state’s tourist destinations so that local communities could also benefit from the growth of the sector.
“Tourism has a major contribution to the economy, including revenue generation through GSDP and other sources. In many countries and regions, tourism has become a strong economic driver,” Saha said.
He said the state was also working to provide training to local communities so that they could actively participate in tourism-related activities and benefit from the sector’s expansion.
The Chief Minister said the growth of tourism would have a positive impact on Tripura’s economy and generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
“Today, as World Tourism Day is being observed, the importance of promoting tourism further becomes even more significant,” Saha said.
Saha also said peace was essential for development and maintained that sustained development could take place only in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
The Chief Minister, along with large number of people and BJP leaders, participated in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ listening programme organised by the 14 Badharghat mandal of the BJP.
