**Agartala, September 24:** Three water conservation initiatives from North Tripura were showcased at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday, highlighting the district’s efforts to combine government action, community participation and private-sector support for sustainable water management.
North Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran presented the initiatives as a speaker at the Practitioners’ Forum on Best Practices held at Bharat Mandapam.
Among the initiatives highlighted was the **Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra**, a district administration-led programme aimed at strengthening water conservation through greater involvement of local communities.
Chandran also spoke about the rainwater harvesting saturation initiative in Vanghmun. The community-led programme seeks to expand rainwater harvesting coverage across the area and encourage local participation in water conservation.
The third initiative focused on **springshed management in Jampui and Damcherra blocks**, being implemented under the leadership of CML and Tata Trusts. The programme focuses on conserving and managing spring-based water resources in the district’s hilly areas.
The presentation highlighted North Tripura’s convergence-based model, in which administrative interventions are combined with community participation and support from private-sector organisations.
The district administration stressed that long-term water security requires sustained collaboration among government agencies, local communities and private organisations. Such coordinated efforts, it said, can strengthen conservation practices and support sustainable management of water resources.
The initiatives presented at the national forum provided an overview of the district’s ongoing efforts to address local water challenges through participatory and integrated approaches.
