Agartala, September 20: A new cricket academy is set to come up at Sekerkote, with the Tripura Government earmarking nearly 30 acres of land for the proposed facility, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Sunday.
The announcement was made during the annual award distribution programme organised by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), where Saha outlined the government’s efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and create better avenues for emerging athletes.
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed academy will add to the state’s cricketing facilities and help young players access better training and development opportunities.
Saha said the TCA has been undertaking various programmes to promote cricket, improve infrastructure and identify talented players from across Tripura.
“Cricket is a game of immense passion, enthusiasm and emotion. Keeping this spirit in mind, the Tripura Cricket Association is undertaking various initiatives to promote the sport, develop infrastructure and nurture talented players,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the government would continue working towards providing improved sports facilities and expanding opportunities for the younger generation.
He also informed that construction of the international-standard cricket stadium at Narsingarh is approaching completion. The facility, he said, would provide local cricketers with a stronger platform to hone their abilities and compete at national and international levels.
Saha felicitated players who received awards at the programme and said such recognition would encourage them to strive for higher achievements while inspiring other youngsters to pursue sports.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the importance of taking sports infrastructure beyond urban centres and providing players from rural areas with better facilities. He also advocated wider use of technology in sports training and performance enhancement.
Roy referred to Tripura’s Asmita Dey, who has represented India and made her mark at the international level, as an example for aspiring players. He encouraged young athletes to establish clear goals and remain focused on achieving them.
TCA officials, players and members of the sporting community from across the state attended the programme.
