Assam Rifles carried out a major anti-narcotics operation on **28 January 2026** in the general area of **Boxanagar**, approximately **41 km south of Agartala**, in **Sepahijala District, Tripura**, dealing a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region.
Acting on specific and credible intelligence inputs, a column of Assam Rifles launched a well-coordinated operation in close collaboration with the **Sepahijala District Police**, **Tripura State Rifles**, and the **Forest Department**. The joint team conducted extensive searches in difficult terrain and successfully detected large-scale illicit cultivation in the area.
During the operation, **approximately 1,45,000 ganja saplings** being illegally cultivated across an area of more than **58 acres** were identified and completely destroyed on the spot, in accordance with established legal procedures. The seized and destroyed contraband is estimated to have a market value of around **₹14.5 crore**, highlighting the scale of the illegal operation and its potential impact on society.
The destruction of such a massive quantity of narcotics has dealt a severe setback to the narcotics network operating in and around the region. The operation not only disrupted the supply chain but also sent a strong message to those involved in illegal drug cultivation and trafficking.
