Agartala: Nov 04: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the synthetic football turf at Umakanta Mini Stadium at Agartala and also laid the foundation for the setting up of the floodlighting in the stadium today. Dy CM Jishnu Dev Varma, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Olympiad gymnast Dipa Karmakar, other senior officials, hundreds of sports personalities and sport lovers present there.
This is the first synthetic football turf stadium in the capital city setup at a cost of around ₹5 crores, and the second in the state, which are expected to help the budding football talents and keep engaged youths in sports activities and thus keep them away from the menace of drugs said CM Dr Saha.
Adding to the CM, YA&S Minister Chowdhury said that the present government in Tripura is largely developing the sports infrastructure in the state and during last 14 months time all total at a cost of some 60 Cr various sports facilities including seven synthetic football turf stadium are being developed and mainly under the government of India’s Khelo India scheme.
He added that the state government had sanctioned an additional amount of ₹ 3 crores for the flood lighting of the stadium and it will be the first of its type with such facilities. All dignitaries inspected the stadium in which an inaugural match was also played on the day.
